An oral history of Sister Jean Malloy, a Sister of Charity of Seton Hill from 1945 until 2006. The interview was conducted by Sister Mary Noel Kernan on July 17, 1987.
Sister Jeanne Malloy was born on September 30, 1926 in Altoona, Pa. Daughter of John F. Malloy and Erma M. Luther, Jean Elizabeth Malloy entered the community on September 8, 1945 as Sister Jeanne Malloy.
Sister Jeanne served as a teacher in diocesan schools throughout America and Korea. In her American ministry, she served in schools in the dioceses of Altoona-Johnstown, Greensburg, and Pittsburgh and the Archdiocese of Washington. In 1961, she travelled to South Korea to serve at the Sisters’ new schools there and returned to teach in America in 1976. She returned to teach in South Korea from 1981 to 1991, and then returned to America to teach until 1994. From 1994 to 2006, she volunteered with the Senior Companion Program at the Blair Senior Service Center.
Sister Jeanne earned her B.M. in Piano and Voice instruction from Seton Hill College in 1959.
Sister Jeanne Malloy passed away on March 7, 2006 at the age of 79.
