Sister M. Editha Springer

An oral history of Sister M. Editha Springer, a Sister of Charity of Seton Hill from 1926 until 1997. The interview was conducted by Sister James Marie Malone on June 25, 1987.

Sister Mary Editha Springer was born on May 26th, 1906 in Carrolltown, Pa. Daughter of Thomas P. Springer and Elizabeth C. Reig, Delrose Frances Springer entered the community on September 8th, 1926 at the age of 20 as Sister Mary Editha Springer. 

Sister Mary Editha was an intermediate teacher for 10 years and an upper elementary teacher for 10 years. She taught at St. John the Evangelist in Southside of Pittsburgh, St. James School in Wilkinsburg, Sacred Heart in Shadyside, St. Paul School in Greensburg and the Tucson Dioceses. She taught history at Seton Hill College in the summer sessions from 1940-1944, 1950-1952, and 1955-1960. 

She received her B.A. of English with a minor in Social Studies from Duquesne University in 1940. She received her M.A. of American History from Duquesne in 1950 and then went to Seton Hill College in 1952 for Fundamentals of Art. In 1968, she received her Elementary School Librarian Certification from St. Francis College. She was an administrator in elementary for 16 years and was an elementary librarian for 2 years. 

Sister Mary Editha Springer passed on September 3rd, 1997 at the age of 91.
