Vandergrift, Sr. Marie Baptista
An oral history of Sister Marie Baptista Vandergrift, a Sister of Charity of Seton Hill from 1917 until 1986. The interview was conducted by Sister Marie Corona Miller on October 1, 1986.
Sister M. Baptista was born on November 26th, 1895 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Daughter of Eugene B. Vandergrift and Catherine Brophy, Mary Olive Vandergrift entered the community on March 24th, 1917 at the age of 21 as Sister Marie Baptista Vandergrift.
Sister Marie Baptista was an elementary school teacher in both the Greensburg and Pittsburgh dioceses. While in Greensburg, she taught at Immaculate Conception School in Irwin. She taught from 1919 to 1972. She also taught at St. John the Evangelist, St. James in Wilkinsburg, and St. Phillip in Crafton.
She passed on October 20th, 1986 at the age of 90.
