Sister M. Immaculata O'Donnell

An oral history of Sister M. Immaculata O'Donnell, a Sister of Charity of Seton Hill from 1928 until 1989. The interview was conducted by Sister Marie Corona Miller on February 5, 1987.

Sister M. Immaculata O'Donnell - born Mildred O'Donnell on April 29, 1907 - entered the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in December of 1928. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Duquesne University in 1955. However, much of her work was done in medical settings; Sister M. Immaculata was a medical technician at St. Francis Hospital from 1924-1928 and at Pittsburgh Hospital from 1936-1950. She then taught in elementary schools in the Pittsburgh area from 1950-1962 (most notably at St. James Elementary School in Wilkinsburg) before combining her areas of expertise as Director of Admissions at Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing from 1964-1977. Sister M. Immaculata O'Donnell died on March 5, 1989.
