Sister M. Alberta Sweeney

An oral history of Sister M. Alberta Sweeney, a Sister of Charity of Seton Hill from 1923 until 1999. The interview was conducted by Sister Marie Corona Miller on January 15, 1987.

Sister Mary Alberta was born on March 10th, 1902 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Daughter of Thomas D. Sweeney and Mary E. McNertney, Margaret Mary Sweeney entered the community on November 1st, 1923 at the age of 21 as Sister Mary Alberta Sweeney. 

Sr. Mary Alberta taught at the upper-level in education for 30 years. She taught at St. Phillip, Sacred Heart, St. Stephen, St. Anselm, St. John the Baptist, and Resurrection Schools in Pittsburgh. She was an administrator in elementary education for 12 years, serving as Principal for Saint Anselm from 1951-1955 and 1957-1963. Sister Mary Alberta Sweeney received her Bachelor's of Education from Duquesne University in 1933.

Sister Mary Alberta Sweeney passed on January 19th, 1999 at the age of 96.
